Meet The Artist: Grapheart
29.06.2012 by Roisin McGuire
The Grapheart adventure started seven years ago while Gregory Demont (aka Grapheart) was attending law school. Whilst continuing his studies in intellectual property, it was far away from lecture halls that he sharpened his pencil and defined the directive lines that would one day become the “Grapheart Studio.”
Grapheart draws his inspiration from his passion for toys, comic strips and every type of cartoon. The desire to bring his characters to form came with the discovery and exploration of Art Toys. His work was then expanded and enriched by colourful and crazy stuffed animals.
Where do you live and what do you love about your hometown?
I live very close to Paris. It's the ideal place because I can take advantage of our great capital and, at the same time, take advantage of
the peace and the space of the nearby cities.
What made you become an artist?
Curiosity and passion to create something from nothing. I didn't start out with a clear idea, I just wanted to work in a spatial domain, to look at the stars and the planets. I find inspiration in everything from people in the street, animals, buildings, food, I always find something crazy in everything I see. What you create brings you to meet different people. It's an extraordinary human adventure. I try to not have an ultimate goal. I hope I will always have the inspiration and the desire to create again, again and again.
What would you describe your style as?
A mix of US, Japanese and French cultures with a pronounced taste for stupid and crazy situations!
What gets you most excited about your work?
An email named "Request" or "New Project" because it's often the beginning of a great adventure.
Can you give us some details on what you are working on at the moment?
I'm working on LP artworks, a doll for a music video, a smartphone app, my first personal book titled "Le dessin du lundi" and lots of other graphic design based work?
If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be & why?
Michel Gondry because of his ingenuity in so many domains. He's an incredible artist.

Any words of advice for aspiring artists?
Trust in yourself, be modest and never give up!
Describe yourself in 5 words?
Perfectionist, creative, maniac, happy and sometimes anxious.
